Harmony is an unincorporated master-planned community in Osceola County, Florida, near the city of St. Cloud and the Orlando–Kissimmee metropolitan area. It was developed beginning in the early 2000s as a New Urbanist community, following the traditional neighborhood design philosophy made famous by places such as Seaside on the Florida Panhandle. The development traces its planning roots to 1992, when the Harmony Development of Regional Impact was originally approved by Osceola County under the name Birchwood, with capacity for up to 7,200 residential units along with commercial, office, and light-industrial space. A defining feature of Harmony is its commitment to open space. Roughly 70 percent of the community is preserved as natural areas, centered on nearly 1,000 acres of lakes—Cat Lake and Buck Lake—that give the community its distinctive character. The Harmony Golf Preserve provides a championship course, and the walkable town square anchors community life, surrounded by residential villages designed for pedestrian connection and neighborly interaction. The population has grown steadily with continued home construction, reaching roughly 5,900 residents in recent estimates. It sits just south of Kissimmee along the U.S. Route 192 corridor, about 29 miles from the Orlando-area theme parks and roughly 35 miles from the Atlantic beaches near Melbourne. Schools are a significant draw, with the area served by highly rated institutions including Harmony Community School and nearby higher-education options such as Valencia College's Osceola campus. For families, the community offers parks, trails, lakes, golf, playgrounds, and programmed events in a setting that deliberately recalls a traditional small town.
