Oldsmar is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, set at the junction of the northern arm of Tampa Bay and Lake Tarpon, roughly midway between Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. Its name and layout trace to 1916, when Ransom E. Olds, the automobile pioneer behind the REO Motor Car Company and Oldsmobile, purchased the property and formed the Reo Farms Company to build a planned town. The community's name changed over the years before reverting to Oldsmar in 1937, and its early history is still visible in the town center and along the waterfront. About 14,900 residents live in the city. Oldsmar is best known for its unusually abundant parkland, claiming more parks per square mile than any other city in Florida. That identity is anchored by Mobbly Bayou Wilderness Preserve, a nearly 400-acre natural area with hiking, paddling, fishing, and a dog park, and by R.E.
