Silver Springs is an unincorporated census-designated place in Marion County, Florida, positioned just east of Ocala in the north-central portion of the state. The community takes its name from one of Florida's most storied natural features: a cluster of artesian springs whose clear water wells up and flows outward as the Silver River before reaching the Ocklawaha River about four miles to the east. Those springs made Silver Springs one of Florida's original tourist destinations, and the glass-bottom boats that still glide over them have carried visitors for more than a century. Today the springs and surrounding riverfront are protected within Silver Springs State Park, which anchors the community's identity and its outdoor lifestyle.
